Lose Weight

Losing weight is a really a simple thing to achieve that we all find so hard to do. My goal is to help you achieve the weight loss you want with simple eating systems and exercise techniques. I feel that its important to have a basic understanding of calories and why we put weight on and how a few simple measures can help you avoid gaining more weight.

A pound of fat is equivalent to 3500 calories and our bodies have a preset amount of calories that we need to take in each day to maintain our weight as it is ,  this is referred to as BMR or basal metabolic rate . If we eat over our BMR for an extended period of time then we gain weight and if we eat under then we lose weight . Calcualting BMR can be quite a complicated process if you want to know more then click here for a brilliant detailed guide on the subject.

It's important to measure your bodyweight when you start a weight loss programme and to take other measurements . When weighing yourself try and do it at the same time in the same place each time you do it , other measurements that are helpful to track your weight loss progress are as follows :

  • Body measurements with a tape measure
  • Body fat percentage
  • BMI
  • Bone density
  • Lean muscle mass
  • Hydration levels
These and other measurements can be taken with a tape measure and a set of Body composition scales such as Tanita's . There is a lot of debate about the accuracy of Body composition scales but the important thing is that the readings give you a pattern and can help you track your progress.

If you would like a Body composition test done and you live in Blackpool or the fylde coast then you can email me on simondawes7@gmail.com.
